A date at the cemetary

Yes … today I had an ‘artists date’ with myself (a la Julia Cameron’s “The Artists Way”). It came over deliciously cloudy this afternoon and start to rain a little, so I took myself off to that cemetary the funeral was at on Friday, and as promised took some photos. I’m rather pleased with the results. I’ll post some on here, but there are more (all the ones I’m keeping) at my Flickr account if you want to see more.

I definitely have to do more of this. I had such a blast!

This photo was actually a dud — it was terribly blurry. But I managed to turn it into something deliciously creepy with the use of infrared.

I was trying to capture the tiny little flower growing in the crack at the headstone, but you have to look awfully carefully to see it.

  1. Lovely. Really really lovely. You make me want to shake the dust off my camera and see what I can find. I love the little red flower against the grey of the headstone.

  2. Oh, Sarah Stewart Taylor writes a series of books about a young professor, Sweeney St. George, whose speciality is funerary art. Sweeney is incredibly complex and interesting, in fact, when I read the first book I wasn’t to taken with her, but when I read the fourth earlier this year I was sucked into her world.

  3. Thank you **hugs** I had a blast taking these, and then ‘processing’ them later on. I’m usually no more than a really less-then-average happy snapper so I’m absolutely chuffed at the ways these have turned out.

Uhoh — more book recommendations. Ah dear. My poor reading list. I have such a lot of “catching-up” browsing today. I have to get Liam off to daycare but after that I don’t have to be anywhere today. Bliss 🙂 I will catch up then.

  4. Nice pictures. You have a good eye. I especially like the blurry one. It leaves an unsettled feeling.

And I didn’t know about this blog!!! I found it through Laura. I think you were hiding from me. ;-P

  5. Hey you!!!! Thank you SO much for the compliments. Yes – the blurry one turned out outstanding lol. It’s spooky. Scarier than spooky. It’s like you should be seeing a ghost or a vampire or something there.

Gail my Gail … I have posted the link to this blog on LJ 2 or 3 times. I thought you were ignoring it 🙁 So I’m GLAD you have now found it!! Mwah!

  6. For some reason your LJ never appeared on my Flist even though I tried to get it there several times. And then I’d forget to go over there and look so guess I missed the posts. Sorry!! But I found you now…and you’ll not get rid of me that easy.

  7. It’s strange, isn’t it – just how lovely and inspiring a cemetery can be. Don’t put that camera down for long and please keep sharing the results with us. 🙂

  8. Thank you SO much for the compliment Deb.

It IS odd they beauty you can find at a cemetary. Taking those photos has definitely inspired me to try taking more. All of a sudden I seem able to take some that look halfway decent. I’d love to find old decrepit buildings and the like.

Talk to me!
